The GEA Westfalia OSD 2-02-137 is a self-cleaning mineral oil separator — a type of centrifugal disc-stack separator designed to continuously purify or clarify oil by removing water, solid particles, and sludge.

GEA Westfalia OSD 2-02-137

Key Characteristics

  • Type: Self-cleaning disc bowl centrifugal separator (continuous operation) — solids are automatically ejected while running.

  • Purpose: Clarifies and purifies oils by separating heavier contaminants and water from the lighter oil phase.

  • Construction:
    • Stainless steel bowl for corrosion resistance under oil service.
    • Gravity discharge for heavy phase (water & sludge).
    • Pressurized discharge for clean light phase oil.
    • Detachable hood with sight glass for level checking.

  • Drive: 3-phase AC motor with belt drive, bearings splash-lubricated from central oil bath.

  • Typical Specs: Bowl speed ~10,000 rpm, 1 L bowl volume, ~0.8–1.3 kW motor depending on frequency/voltage.

How It Works:
Contaminated oil enters a rotating bowl with stack discs. Under centrifugal force, heavier layers (water and solids) move outward and are collected, while clean oil is discharged inward through a centripetal pump. Solids are periodically ejected automatically without stopping the separator.

 Marine Department Uses

In marine environments, the OSD 2-02-137 is used to maintain oil quality for safe and efficient shipboard operations:

🔹 Fuel Oil Purification

  • Removes water, soot, and particulates from marine fuel before it reaches engines or generators, enhancing combustion efficiency and protecting injection systems.

🔹 Lubricating Oil Clarification

  • Cleans lubricating oils used in main engines, auxiliary machinery, and gearboxes. Contaminant removal reduces wear and extends equipment life.

🔹 Hydraulic and System Oil Cleaning

  • Purifies hydraulic and auxiliary oils for steering gears, pumps, and deck machinery to protect against wear and failure.

🔹 General On-Board Fluid Reliability

  • Keeps oil quality within specification during long voyages, minimizing maintenance and protecting crew safety.

Marine separators like these are rugged and designed for continuous operation under vibration and motion common in ship engine rooms.

 Industrial Department Uses

In industrial settings, the OSD 2-02-137 supports a range of fluid purification duties:

🔸 Industrial Fuel Treatment

  • Clarifies diesel and industrial fuels used in generators, boilers, and turbines, increasing efficiency and reducing fouling.

🔸 Lubricating & Process Oil Purification

  • Removes contaminants from hydraulic oils, gear oils, cooling oils, and other process fluids in manufacturing and processing plants.

🔸 Waste Oil Recycling

  • Helps reclaim usable base oil from waste streams by cleaning out solids and water — reducing pollution and disposal costs.

🔸 Chemical/Plant Fluid Clarification

  • Used in power plants, chemical, automotive, steel/paper and metalworking industries to keep oils and fluids clean for reliable equipment performance.

    Benefits & Practical Notes

    Advantages
Continuous separation: Self-cleaning bowl removes solids without frequent stops.
Compact and robust: Designed for space-limited engine rooms and plant floors.
Improves machinery life: By removing contaminants that cause wear, corrosion, and fouling.
